EC

Emulsion Cracking

Features

The Pan America Environmental EC series is a family of API421 based steel, above grade, Emulsion Cracking, coalescing oil water separator designs that can be applied to many applications where oils, fuels and many petroleum derived products are present.

Benefits

  • Proven reliability
  • Chemical emulsion cracking process with effluent pH neutralization
  • Flow rates from 5 to 250 GPM
  • Economical construction:  304/316 SS, polypropylene/polyethylene, coated carbon steel
  • Saves floor space
  • Many possible integrated options
  • Variety of plate spacings
  • Highly customizable design

Process Overview

The EC design is most commonly used wherever emulsified oils and fuels can come into contact with a wastestream and are designed to handle solids. The emulsion cracking process is based on acid cracking of the emulsion to a free oil layer followed by separation and then pH neutralization prior to discharge.

How It Works

The EC system can crack an oil-in-water emulsion by acidification and/or use of a demulsifying chemical based on the acidic level required to crack your particular emulsion. Once cracked the free oils in water are passed through the coalescing oil water separator section where they are removed. Subsequently, the flow pH is then neutralized for discharge via a third process section (typically in the 6-9 range). All three processes are contained within a single, linear process tank design.
